Projectmates Construction Management Software and Office Depot Win Constructech Gold Vision Award

Dallas, TX — September 21, 2011 — Systemates, Inc. announced today that Constructech Magazine awarded Projectmates and Office Depot the Gold Vision Award in the category of Corporate Owner Retail/Chain. Office Depot's Construction Department won the Gold Vision Award for its innovative use of Projectmates construction management software. The gold award, the highest honor of its class, was presented during a dinner and ceremony at the Drury Lane Theater and Conference Center near Chicago at the conclusion of the sixth annual Technology Day conference.

In 2006, Office Depot implemented Projectmates construction management software. Since then, over 1,000 users have accessed over 2,000 stores in Projectmates, collaborating on thousands of construction projects. Office Depot adopted Projectmates because it streamlines communication, significantly reduced paperwork and data entry, and offers a full suite of construction specific tools for managing the complete lifecycle of its projects.

Our construction department is always looking for innovative ways to make us more competitive and effective. Adding efficiencies through Projectmates only saves us time and money and frees us up to focus on the big picture of our construction program," said John Vryonides, Senior Manager of Construction at Office Depot.

Office Depot won the Gold Vision Award for its innovative use of Projectmates construction management software. Highlights include:

  • Since implementing Projectmates in 2006, competitive bidding has gone from a manual process to a 100% electronic bidding process, which has eliminated paperwork and shaved off at least a week from the project timeline.
  • Projectmates A/P Bridge provides a completely automated process from contract management into Office Depot's enterprise accounting system.
  • Project financials are managed and tracked in Projectmates, including contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • The collaborative nature of Projectmates makes communicating with project teams more streamlined and effective. Quick communication and immediate access to information are paramount to all team members, including Office Depot, suppliers, architects, and general contractors.

"Integrating between Projectmates and Office Depot's enterprise accounting system has been a win-win for Office Depot and its partners. When you consider we processed thousands of invoices in 2010 alone, you realize how much paper and company time was saved," said John Vryonides.

Office Depot's Construction Department is an integral component of the company's success and encompasses store planning, construction, maintenance, and remodel teams. A retail leader in the green sustainable building movement, the team also opened its first LEED-certified store in Austin, Texas in 2008 and has since registered 14 stores and 1 warehouse as LEED certified.
